U.S. tent collapse leaves 1 dead, 100 injured

One person was killed and more than 100 others were injured Saturday when a large tent collapsed in stormy weather in downtown St. Louis, a city in the U.S. state of eastern Missouri, local media reported.

The tent at Kilroy's Bar near the Busch Stadium was knocked down by high winds caused by a thunderstorm, said a report aired by the KSDK TV station.

St. Louis Fire Department transported 17 people to a hospital for treatment of their injuries, while 100 others received medical treatment at the scene. Five people were in critical condition as of Saturday afternoon, according to the report.

When the accident took place, a few hundred people gathered in the tent celebrating the victory of the local baseball team St. Louis Cardinals in defeating the Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson was quoted as saying.
