Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-06-01 06:03

The U.S. Department of the Treasury is sending its point man on sanctions to Israel, Russia and Britain to discuss international sanctions against Iran and Syria, it was announced on Thursday.

During his June 3-8 trip, Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David Cohen will meet with senior government officials of the three countries to discuss mainly the implementation of U.S. and international sanctions against Iran and Syria, the department said.

He will brief those officials on the new U.S. sanctions authorities relating to Iran and Syria, including the designation on Wednesday of the Syria International Islamic Bank.

Calling the trip part of the Treasury's continuing global engagement on national security issues, the department said Cohen will also talk about steps to increase global efforts to combat transnational organized crime and kidnapping for ransom. It said that kidnapping for ransom, as a tool used for terrorist financing, has become a "growing danger."
