Mexico and Honduras agreed on a pilot program to repatriate illegal Honduran migrants, Mexico's Interior Ministry said Tuesday.
Mexico hopes the program will help repatriate illegal immigrants to the second largest Honduran city of San Pedro Sula and facilitate their reintegration into their home country.
Honduran Deputy Foreign Minister Mireya Aguero Trejo de Corrales said Honduras was working to make the structural reforms needed to discourage emigration. She also thanked Mexico for supporting the establishment of Honduran consulates in towns with populous migrants.
Each year, about 300,000 undocumented immigrants enter Mexico, mostly from Honduras. Many are detained by the authorities, while others fall victim to crime. |
