Hillary Clinton to attend funeral of late Ghanaian president |

U.S. President Barack Obama on Thursday named Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as the head of a delegation to attend the state funeral of late Ghanaian president John Evans Atta Mills.
Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Johnnie Carson, who is currently on an Africa tour with Clinton, is also part of the U.S. delegation along with General Carter Ham, commander of the U.S. Africa Command, theWhite Housesaid in a statement.
Mills died of illness on July 24 at the age of 68. Obama, who traveled to Ghana in 2009 in his only trip to Africa as president, has praised Mills for promoting economic growth and democracy in the country.
Mills' funeral is slated for Friday. |
