Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-09-01 10:28

U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Anthony Wayne Friday discussed the embassy's relocation plan with the city's mayor-elect Miguel Angel Mancera, the embassy said.

Wayne raised the issue when meeting Mancera to congratulate the latter for his election on July 1 and discuss about their future cooperation.

Wayne informed Mancera about the plan for an embassy's new building. Currently, the U.S. embassy is located in Reforma Avenue, which is often occupied by protestors.

"The building of a new embassy is a demonstration of the U.S. commitment to strengthen its bilateral relation with Mexico," said Wayne.

According to the statement, Wayne said Mexico City is "world-renowned for being one of the most exciting, dynamic and cosmopolitan cities."

Wayne said he also talked with Mancera about human trafficking prevention, as well as the success of the security program "Ambar Alert" between the embassy and the city government.

Mancera will assume office on Dec. 5 for a six-year term.
