U.S. assistant secretary of state in charge of political and military affairs Andrew Shapiro has concluded his visit to the UK, Iraq and Jordan this week, which is focused on security cooperation, said a State Department statement on Wednesday.

In London, Shapiro met with senior officials on issues including counter-piracy and further expansion of security cooperation through the new U.S.-UK Defense Trade Cooperation Treaty, which came into effect earlier this year, said the statement.

The statement said that the treaty recognizes and supports the "long-standing special relationship" between the two nations by " facilitating industry collaboration and innovation" in defense areas.

In Baghdad, Shapiro met with Iraqi senior officials to highlight the U.S. commitment to developing a long-term cooperative bilateral security ties through "training and defense trade," according to the statement.

In Jordan's capital Amman, he held consultations with the country's officials on issues such as peacekeeping, border security and regional security, the statement said.
