Los Angeles Police announced early Wednesday morning that a charred human body has been found in a burned-down cabin in which a man thought to be the fugitive ex-officer Christopher Dorner barricaded himself in a standoff with law enforcement authorities Tuesday afternoon.

Sheriff's Office of San Bernardino County, where the cabin located, confirmed that investigators are searching for evidence that Dorner hid inside before the cabin got on fire.

"We have reason to believe that it is him," sheriff's spokeswoman Cindy Bachman said. She said forensic tests will be conducted to confirm the identification of the body.

One sheriff deputy was killed and another wounded during a gun battle between law enforcement officers and the man which is thought to be 33-year-old Dorner Tuesday afternoon.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Jodi Miller told media that "The suspect fled into the forest and barricaded himself inside a cabin. A short time later there was an exchange of gunfire between law enforcement and the suspect. Sheriff's SWAT is on scene."

After about two hours standoff, the cabin got on fire when police shot tear gas and tried to break into it.

A suspect of killing a couple in Irvine and a Riverside police officer and injured two others in a revenge campaign against the police, Dorner was found in the Big Bear area in San Bernardino of Southern California Tuesday afternoon after he burglarized a home, tied up a couple and stole their car.

A massive manhunt for him entered the sixth day on Tuesday.

Dorner was fired by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) in 2009 after a police disciplinary board found him guilty of making false statement against his training officer, whom he accused of kicking a mentally ill man during an arrest in 2007.

A manifesto on what is believed to be Dorner's Facebook page criticized racism in LAPD.

LAPD announced Sunday a one-million-dollar reward for information leading to the capture of Dorner. Police searched in the past several days from Riverside to Corona to Big Bear to Point Loma in San Diego, a large area in Southern California. They found Dorner's abandoned car last Thursday in flames in Big Bear area.

In a press conference Sunday, LAPD said it will reopen investigation into the firing of Dorner, in a bid to put the public thinking to rest.
