Myanmar to hold third parliament session on Jan. 26 |

Myanmar's parliament on Tuesday set Jan. 26 as the starting date of holding the third session of the two-house parliament in the national capital of Nay Pyi Taw to continue discussing bills.
The Union Parliament is made up of the House of Representatives (Lower House) and the House of Nationalities (Upper House)
The second session ended on Nov. 25, 2011, which lasted for over three months.
During the second session of the parliament, a total of 17 bills were passed by the parliament and signed by President U Thein Sein into laws.
Among them is the Amendment to the Party Registration Law which allows Aung San Suu Kyi-led National League for Democracy (NLD) to be registered as a legal political party and join in the upcoming parliamentary by-elections on April 1 to contest 48 seats vacated by cabinet members after the last general elections on Nov. 7, 2010.
The NLD has formed a 21-member committee to prepare for the by- election and nomination of NLD candidates. |
