Indonesia aims to see 11.5 pct poverty rate this year

Indonesia's Public Welfare Minister Agung Laksono said on Wednesday that government expected to see poverty rate reduced to between 11 to 11.5 percent this year, or lower than 12.37 percent last year.

"With an assumption that poverty rate downs 1 percent each year, we expect to see poverty rate between 8 to 10 percent (from the population) by 2014," the minister said here.

Briefing his subordinates in the ministry, he asked them to work harder in addressing the poverty issue.

Agung said that he already prepared five priority programs aimed at improving the public's welfare.

Those programs consisted of improvements in education, health sectors, disaster mitigation, poverty eradication and technology innovation development and innovation, he said.
