U.S. delegation to visit S. Korea over sanctions on Iran
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-01-12 17:01

A U.S. delegation will visit South Korea next week to discuss new sanctions on Iran over its controversial nuclear program, the Foreign Ministry here said Thursday.

The delegates, including Robert Einhorn, U.S. State Department' s special adviser for non-proliferation and arms control, will arrive here next Monday for a three-day trip that includes visits to foreign and finance ministries in Seoul.

The delegates are expected to brief South Korean officials on details of the new sanctions regime, while officials here will ask for Washington's cooperation in minimizing the economic fallout from the measure.

The new economic sanctions, aimed at cutting off Iran's oil revenue, ban financial institutions from doing business with Iran' s central bank from the U.S. market.

South Korea relies on Iran for 9.6 percent of its crude oil supplies.
