Thai PM reassures safety amid Bangkok terrorist warning
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-01-15 16:23

Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra reassured the public and foreign tourists Sunday that Thailand is safe from terrorist attacks after 12 countries issued travel warnings to the country.

Yingluck insisted that all security measures were taken and that all relevant agencies were instructed to monitor the situation closely.

Yinglcuk said she also instructed the Foreign Ministry to coordinate with the U.S. and other foreign countries to give them assurance for the safety of their nationals traveling to Thailand.

On January 13, the embassies of the United States and Israel warned their citizens in Thailand of the possibility of imminent terrorist attacks in busy tourist areas of Bangkok.

The warnings came a day after the Thai police said they detained a Lebanese terror suspect.

Among the countries issuing similar warnings are Canada, Australia and Britain.
