Thailand's post-flood unemployment to be surveyed
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-01-29 16:42

Thailand's Ministry of Labor is set to conduct a survey on the impact of last year's severe flooding on the employment situation in the country.

Minister of Labor Phadermchai Sasomsub said on Sunday that the Department of Labor Protection and Welfare has a plan to collect data on employees who have lost their jobs and on the employment situation after last year's flood crisis.

According to the labor minister, initial data received earlier suggested that a number of workers have decided to start their own businesses due to uncertainty in their employment status.

The survey is aimed at clarifying what exactly happened to the country's employment market and matching unemployed labors with appropriate job openings.

The survey conclusion was expected to be obtained by February, added Phadermchai.

The heaviest flood in over 50 years beginning from late July last year was believed to have put more than 600,000 people at the risk of losing their jobs after the deluge had inundated thousands of businesses across the country.
