Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-02-03 16:35

The foreign policy of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) with Cambodia will not be changed although the country has a new leader after the decease of the DPRK's top leader Kim Jong Il, said a diplomat here on Friday.

Hong Ki Chol, the DPRK's new designated ambassador to Cambodia, made the remarks during a meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen at the Peace Palace.

"The ambassador told Prime Minister Hun Sen that the DPRK's new leader Kim Jong Un had said that the DPRK would still continue strengthening and expanding traditional relations and cooperation with Cambodia for mutual interests," the premier's spokesman Eang Sophalleth told reporters after the meeting.

Hong Ki Chol said that the DPRK's stance is to cement ties with Cambodia, adding that during his diplomatic mission here he would try all his best to boost the bilateral ties.

Meanwhile, the premier highlighted good relations between Cambodia and the DPRK, saying that it was very essential to strengthen the bilateral ties for the interests of the two peoples.

The diplomatic relations between the DPRK and Cambodia have been fostered by Cambodian former King Norodom Sihanouk and the DPRK's deceased leader Marshall Kim Il Sung for decades.
