Japan and Thailand agreed on Wednesday to cooperate on disaster management to further enhance bilateral economic ties.
Japanese Industry Minister Yukio Edano proposed to Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra in a meeting in Tokyo that Thailand use a Japanese observation satellite to help avoid a recurrence of the massive floods which cost lots of damages to Thailand last year.
It is Yingluck's first trip to Japan as Thailand's first female prime minister. Her primary focus of the trip, according to Japanese media, is to restore investor confidence after the devastating flooding, which inundated many assembly plants of Japanese manufacturers and disrupted their supply chains.
On Thursday, Yingluck will travel to Natori in northeastern Japan's Miyagi Prefecture, which was ravaged by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami last year. |
