S. Korea to issue cyber attack alert before Nuclear Security Summit
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-03-09 17:26

South Korea will issue a warning this weekend against potential cyber attacks ahead of the upcoming Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul, the country's telecommunications watchdog said on Friday.

The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) said that the country 's cyber alert level will be at "interest" starting Sunday to prepare for possible attacks on websites concerned with the international nuclear summit.

The alert level is one notch above authorities' standard default for cyber vigilance.

The watchdog also said that the government will closely monitor cyber assaults such as hacking or distributed denial-of-access ( DDoS) attacks targeting websites of agencies related to the summit.

South Korea will welcome top leaders from 53 countries and four international organizations, including U.S. President Barack Obama and U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, during the March 26-27 event.

The summit, aimed at bolstering international safeguards and preventing nuclear terrorism, will be the second since Obama launched the global gathering in Washington in 2010.
