Vietnamese president meets Russian nuclear energy leader in Hanoi

Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang met here on Friday with visiting General Director of Russian State Nuclear Energy Corporation (Rosatom) Sergey Kirienko.

The Vietnamese leader welcomed Sergey's visit, saying that Russian experts' experience and high-tech knowledge would enable them to complete their working visit successfully.

Vietnam is implementing the strategy on social and economic development with focus on developing key industries. Due to increasing demand for power, the country is speeding up construction of the first nuclear power plant in Vietnam with high quality and efficiency, said Sang.

He added that the plant will be of essential significance for the national development and Vietnam needs support from Rosatom experts to prepare the file on the project and report to relevant agencies and local people.

Sergey expressed his delight in visiting Vietnam and conveyed greetings from Russian president to the Vietnamese leader, affirming that Russia attached importance to expanding cooperation between the two governments.

He said that Russian experts conducted surveys on the construction of nuclear power plant in Vietnam's central Binh Thuan province and have found proper location for the plant.

He spoke highly of efforts made by Vietnamese students under training at Russian nuclear research centers, adding that Rosatom will provide favorable conditions for Vietnamese trainees who would participate in implementing the nuclear power plant in Vietnam.

The Rosatom leader said that the Russian side would form a working team to speed up the process and complete in time the nuclear power project with high quality.
