PAC-3 deployment completed in Okinawa preparing for DPRK's launch
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-04-06 10:47

Japan's Self-Defense Force have completed the transporting and deployment of its ground-based Patriot Advance Capability-3 interceptors in Okinawa Prefecture on Thursday to respond the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's ( DPRK) satellite launch next week, local media reported Friday.

According to the local media, after the Maritime Self-Defense Force transport ship carrying the PAC-3 arrived at Ishigaki Island, the interceptors have been deployed to four locations in Okinawa.

The DPRK announced on March 16 it would launch an "earth observation" satellite, or the Kwangmyongsong-3, using a long- range rocket to mark the 100th birthday of late leader Kim Il-Sung. The satellite is scheduled to be launched from a station in North Phyongan province between April 12 and 16, which has raised strong fear and unease in Japan.

Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba said "I am certain that the launch would be a clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions," and Japan is calling for actions from the UN Security Council against DPRK's launch plan on Wednesday.

The Japanese government decided on Tuesday to extend its sanctions against DPRK for one year after Pyongyang confirmed that it would not give up the satellite launch plan.

Earlier, a DPRK Foreign Ministry spokesman, answering a question from the country's official KCNA news agency, said DPRK will not give up the planned launch, which he said is a " legitimate right of a sovereign state and requirement essential for its economic development."
