South Korea has signed a 200- million-U.S. dollar development loan with Sri Lanka as an attempt to enhance the two countries' economic engagement during Sri Lankan president's visit to South Korea, the official government website reported Wednesday.

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa flew to South Korea on Monday morning for a four day tour aimed at increasing trade cooperation between the two countries.

Three key agreements were signed Tuesday between the two sides on economic and energy cooperation and exchange of politically relevant information. "As part of the Agreement on the Economic Development Cooperation Fund, South Korea agreed to give 200 million U.S. dollars to support development activities in Sri Lanka,"the website said.

During a meeting with South Korean business leaders, Rajapaksa encouraged them to invest in Sri Lanka, saying that it offers " safe and sound" opportunity.

"We are interested in the fields of infrastructure, ports, aviation services, knowledge based industries, tourism and commercial services," he said while addressing a business luncheon co-hosted by four major Korean companies.
