India's ruling Congress party snubs reshuffle reports
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-04-25 20:12

India's ruling Congress party Wednesday dismissed rumours that four of its Cabinet Ministers had offered to quit their posts and work for the party.

"Till this moment, Congress President has not received any such letter from anyone and no one has even verbally mentioned this thing to her," Congress party's General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi told the media.

Indian media were abuzz with rumours that Law Minister Salman Khurshid, Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh, Overseas Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi and Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had offered to resign.

Quoting experts, the reports said that though the Congress' public stance is "no", the resignations are part of the party's plan to revive the organisation and gear up for the last mile before the 2014 general elections.

Sonia Gandhi is, in fact, keen on the massive rejig and wants a younger Congress Working Committee with Rahul Gandhi as the working President, the reports said.
