| DPJ heavyweight Ozawa found not guilty on political funds trial |

Japan's ruling Democratic Party heavyweight Ichiro Ozawa was found not guilty by Tokyo District Court in trial to a charge of violating the country's political funds control law on Thursday.
The former ruling party leader Ozawa was indicted on Jan. 31 over false political fund reporting which was handled by his political fund management body concerning a land deal in Tokyo.
It's a critical time for Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda to gather supports for the on-going tax-hike debate from opposition parties and inside the ruling party, but the court decision increased uncertainty to Noda's tax-hike debate. Ozawa, the 69- year-old political heavyweight, and his cohorts fierce opposed the tax-hike plan. |
