Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-05-03 18:10

A combined forces of Thai police and military raided some 150 houses in the country's southernmost province of Narathiwat Thursday morning.

Two rifles, three boxes of M16 and 22 caliber ammunition were seized during the operation in Chanae district.

Meanwhile, a 27-year-old man surrendered to the police. Thai government allows suspects to turn themselves in and join the army 's training programme to adjust their attitude.

However, the suspect denied any involvement in insurgent activities but confessed he had connection with illegal oil trading.

Muslim-dominant provinces of Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala, which were once part of the sultanate of Pattani, have been plagued with insurgencies for decades. Since the resurgence of the insurgency in 2004, over 5,200 people, mostly villagers, were killed in over 11,000 violent incidents.
