India Monday successfully testfired two more home-made surface-to-air Akash missiles at Chandipur in the eastern state of Odisha, sources said.
This is for the third time in five days that India testfired Akash missiles.
"The testfiring of the two missiles took place around 11 a.m. Both the missiles were testfired in quick succession from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur. The missiles intercepted an unmanned aircraft over the Bay of Bengal," the sources said.
Akash is part of India's anti-aircraft defense system and has been developed by the state-run Defense Research and Development Organization.
Similar to America's MIM-104 Patroit surface-to-air missile, Akash is capable of neutralizing aerial targets such as unmanned aerial vehicles fighter jets, cruise missiles and even air-to- surface missiles.
The earlier trials of the missile took place on May 24 and May 26. |
