Shallow undersea quake hits eastern Indonesia |

An earthquake with magnitude of 5. 7 struck off eastern part of Indonesia earlier Friday, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency reported.
The USGS, however, put the magnitude of the quake at 5.6.
The quake struck at 03 : 17 a.m. Jakarta time Friday (2017 GMT Thursday) with epicenter at 80 km northwest Ternate of North Maluku and with a depth of 16 km under sea bed, an official of the agency told Xinhua by phone.
Indonesia is vulnerable to quake as it sits on a zone known as "the Pacific Ring of fire." |
