India, Pakistan armies held flag meeting at LoC in Indian-controlled Kashmir
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-06-23 21:01

India and Pakistan armies Saturday held a flag meeting at line-of- control (LoC) to discuss the recent ceasefire violations, official said.

The Brigade commander-level meeting was held at Chakan-Da-Bagh crossing point in Poonch, around 180 km southwest of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir. "Brigade Commanders flag level meeting was today held at Chakan- Da-Bagh on LoC point in Poonch sector at 11:30 am and lasted until 12:30 pm," said a senior Indian army officer.

The meeting was held after Indian side sent a hotline message to Pakistan army few days back.

The two armies exchanged fire on LoC, a de facto border dividing Kashmir into Indian and Pakistani controlled parts.

The ceasefire violation took place in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district.

New Delhi and Islamabad in 2003 agreed to observe a ceasefire along the International Border and LoC in Kashmir. Though some violations have been reported on both sides, the ceasefire remains in effect.

Kashmir, the Himalayan region divided between India and Pakistan is claimed by both in full. The two countries have fought three wars, two exclusively over Kashmir.
