A special plane from India on Monday evening brought back 128 Indian nationals who were stranded in Pakistan since Monday morning after their flight, a state-owned Air India plane, made an emergency landing at Nawabshah airport in the neighboring country following a technical snag, an aviation official said.
"The special flight has returned to India carrying all 122 passengers and six crew members of the state-owned Air India flight from Abu Dhabi to New Delhi. The plane, which developed snag, is still in Pakistan and is being inspected by Indian engineers," the official said, on condition of anonymity.
The state-owned plane's pilot made an emergency landing after the Airbus 319's three hydraulic systems failed. Unusually, none of the back-up systems kicked in. The Indian Aviation Ministry is expected to provide a report on the incident to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's Office in the evening, the official said.
Earlier in the day, an Air India spokesperson told the media, "the aircraft was flying over Pakistan air space when the pilot saw a warning light in the cockpit and sought permission to land at the nearest airport which was Nawabshah." |
