Six mentally challenged women were killed and buried secretly in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal, the police said Sunday.
Three men including the superintendent of the government-run home for the mentally challenged women, a doctor and an accomplice have been arrested.
The case came into limelight when local residents complained about a young inmate of the home, Gudia, being murdered and buried inside the home at Jamalpur in Bardhaman district, around 100 km from the state capital here, last week to the police.
The police raided and dug out Gudia's body and autopsy revealed she was raped and killed.
Police investigation Sunday revealed five more women had been similarly killed and their bodies buried near the home.
Three more mentally challenged women whose names are in the register are missing from the home and the police suspects they too might have been killed. |
