The Indonesian government intends to further develop an integrated intermodal transport system in several big cities to create efficiency in the transportation sector, which is expected to help spur economic growth, an official said here on Thursday.
Transportation Deputy Minister Bambang Susantono said the government had picked several big cities in the country for the integration plans in the near future.
"As an archipelagic country, intermodal connectivity becomes a very important thing to better transport both people and goods," said Bambang, quoted by the Jakarta Post.
Indonesia has attempted to boost infrastructure, including transportation, to improve investment climate and economic efficiency.
"Connection for various modes from railway to bus rapid transit system is clearly needed to create efficiency and boost the regional economy," he said.
The government has targeted an economic growth average of 6.6 percent by 2014. |
