Two NATO-led coalition soldiers were killed Thursday in two separate blasts in Afghanistan, the coalition confirmed in statements.
"An International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) service member died following an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in southern Afghanistan today," the NATO-led ISAF said in a statement.
Another ISAF soldier was killed in similar incident in restive eastern part of the country earlier Thursday, according to a separate ISAF statement issued earlier here.
The brief statements gave neither the nationalities of the victims nor the details about the incidents under the ISAF policy.
Troops mainly from the United States, Britain and Australia have been stationed in the southern region and mostly U.S. forces have been serving in eastern part of the militancy-hit country to curb Taliban-linked insurgency there.
Violence has been on the rise since Taliban launched an annual spring offensive on May 3.
Currently over 130,000 NATO-led ISAF troops with majority of them Americans have been serving in Afghanistan since the Taliban regime was toppled in late 2001.
Over 240 foreign soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan so far in 2012. |
