Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-08-13 02:52

Pakistani Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has directed the authorities to arrange immediate dispatch of relief goods to earthquake victims in Tabriz of Iran.

A military C-130 cargo plane, carrying relief goods, shall reach Tabriz by Monday, the Prime Minister Office said on Sunday.

Iranian officials say that the death toll in the quake-hit Ahar and Varzagan cities has reached 220 and more than 1,500 have been injured.

Two strong earthquakes jolted Ahar and Varzagan in East Azerbaijan province on Saturday afternoon, the first one measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale and the second 6.0, IRNA reported.

Reiterating that Pakistan stands with the people and government of Iran, the Pakistani prime minister expressed sympathies with the bereaved families and those who were displaced during the earthquake.

In earlier messages, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Pervez Ashraf, while expressing grief and shock over the loss of life and property caused by the earthquake in the Iranian city of Tabriz, said Pakistan stands with the brotherly country in this hour of trial.

In their separate messages of condolence to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, they offered assistance to the government and people of Iran.
