An airbase ofPakistanAir Force (PAF) in the country's northwest district of Attock was attacked by a group of militants early Thursday morning.
Colonel Atiq, a spokesman of Inter-Services Public Relations ( ISPR), has confirmed the ongoing attack.
At the request of the PAF, the army has sent commandos to the airbase, said the spokesman.
According to local media and army sources, the attack took place at about 2:00 a.m. Thursday when a group of militants launched attack on a checkpost of the Kamra Airbase, some 70 kilometers northwest of the country's capital Islamabad.
The militants opened fire and hurled hand grenades at the post guards after they were stopped at the fourth checkpost of the airbase. The militants wearing army uniform had successfully crossed over three checkposts before they launched the attack.
Huge smoke and fire were seen rising from the airbase following the attack.
There is no immediate report about the casualties.
Kamra Airbase normally houses an estimated 30 jet fighters, said local media quoting army sources.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. |
