Indian External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna will inaugurate Tuesday a nuclear disarmament conference here, according to local media.
The National Outreach Conference on Global Nuclear Disarmament is an initiative of the prime minister's informal group on global disarmament chaired by Mani Shankar Aiyar of the Congress and is organized by the Indian Council of World Affairs and supported by the external affairs ministry, said Indo-Asian News Service Sunday.
The meeting is also held to commemorate the 68th birthday of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, who presented a plan for a nuclear-weapons-free world order at the United Nations General Assembly in June 1988.
Indian Vice President Hamid Ansari and National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon will address the conference. |
