The Armed Forces (TNI) has awarded Thai Army chief of staff, General Prayuth Chan-o-cha, the Kartika Eka Paksi Utama star of honor for his role in boosting military cooperation between the two countries, a media reported here on Friday.

The award was presented to the Thai general by TNI chief Admiral Agus Suhartono at armed forces headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Thursday.

During his visit to Indonesia, Geneal Prayuth also met his counterpart, Indonesian Army chief of staff Gen. Pramono Edhie Wibowo and Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro, the Jakarta Post reported.

The Thai general is in Indonesia to boost defense cooperation between the two countries, primarily by developing a joint military training program.

During his visit, he thanked the Indonesian government for its role in promoting peace between Thailand and Cambodia when tensions arose over a shared border. Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono facilitated a tripartite meeting in May last year, which was attended by Thai Prime Minister Abbhisit Vejjajiva and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.
