India to seek more power for Interpol at upcoming Rome meeting
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-10-21 13:41

India is to seek more power for global police body Interpol at the upcoming meeting in Rome, local media reported Sunday.

Indian Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde will spell out India's demands and concerns at the meet in the Italian capital from November 5 to 8. He will ask Interpol member countries to make the global police body more effective in terms of honoring pending Red Corner Notices against terrorists, The Times of India newspaper reported.

India's demands will be made keeping in view that the alleged Mumbai terror attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed is still roaming free in Pakistan despite the Interpol issuing a Red Corner Notice against him and some of his close aides, the report said.

"Saeed's case makes a mockery of the Red Corner Notice system which expects a member country to put the fugitive under arrest. It, therefore, prompts New Delhi to flag the issue at the gathering in Rome, seeking more power for the international police body," the newspaper quoted an official whose name has not been disclosed as saying.
