Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-11-13 16:54

A jealous man who set his ex-girlfriend on fire in Bangkok after he found out she was seeing another man turned himself into the police on Tuesday.

Thanyarat Phuthorn, a 20-year-old female, on Monday was rushed to hospital by her relatives. Doctors said she had burns to 60 percent of her body and was in critical condition.

According to the police, the attacker was her ex-boyfriend, Eakpol Udom-mala, 19, who was angry after he found out that she was seeing another man.

On Sunday night, the suspect confronted the victim to question her about her new relationship. They cannot settle their argument and Eakpol threatened that he would see her again next day, according to Thanyarat's friend.

Police said the suspect entered Thanyarat's room on early Monday morning with a key that she had earlier given him. He attacked her before pouring oil on her body and setting her on fire. The victim then rushed to the bathroom, removing her burning clothes, and called her relatives for help.

On Tuesday, the suspect went to a local police station and confessed.
