Cambodia halts commercial flights for foreign leaders after ASEAN Summit

Cambodia suspended all commercial flights at the capital's airport for nearly six hours on Tuesday evening in order to facilitate air traffic for foreign leaders departing Cambodia for their respective countries after the 21st ASEAN Summit and related Summits, according to a notice by the Cambodia Airports.

The notice said that the closure was made from 16:00 p.m. ( local time) to 21:30 p.m. at the Phnom Penh International Airport.

The leaders of the ten-member ASEAN and eight ASEAN's dialogue country leaders including U.S. President Barack Obama, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, South Korean President Lee Myung-bak, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, New Zealand Prime Minister John Key, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had participated in the Summits from Nov. 18-20.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Chair of ASEAN in 2012, said at the closing ceremony on Tuesday that the 21st ASEAN Summit and related Summits came to an end successfully with fruitful results as expected.

At the closing ceremony, Hun Sen also handed over the ASEAN rotating chairmanship for 2013 to Brunei.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
