| Japanese ruling party promises to abandon nuclear power |

Japanese ruling Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ), headed by Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, issued its pre-election pledges Tuesday, promising to abandon nuclear power gradually.
Noda held a press conference to release the party's campaign manifestoes for the upcoming general election on Dec. 16. He vowed to end nuclear energy in the 2030s and to fight against deflation by cooperating with the Bank of Japan.
DPJ also promised to give priority to helping people rebuild their lives in the disaster-hit area, and the economy recovery.
On foreign and defense affairs, the DPJ expressed its will to enhance the bilateral alliance with the United States and strengthen Japan Coast Guard's surveillance and security measures.
DPJ planned to join in the Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade talks, led by the United States and other free trade frameworks such as a trilateral pact with China and South Korea. |
