Former Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and former Deputy Premier Suthep Thuagsuban will report themselves to the investigator next Thursday on the charges of conspiring in the murder of a man during the 2010 political upheaval in Bangkok, Thai News Agency reported on Friday.

They were officially asked to present themselves before the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) next week to acknowledge the charges, pressed on Thursday.

The DSI implicated the pair with murder charges in light of the Criminal Court's ruling that Phan Kamkong, a taxi driver, was shot dead by soldiers under the command of the Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES) which was specially set up to deal with the civil protest at that time.

The charges were made against Abhisit in his capacity as prime minister overseeing CRES and Suthep who was appointed the CRES's director.

Democrat Party leader Abhisit, now opposition leader, said in a press briefing on Friday that he will acknowledge the charges at the DSI next Thursday, a day after his return from an overseas trip.

The former premier said they were willing to cooperate in the judicial process.

"Even though the punishment is jail term or execution, we will accept it. We will fight under the rule of law without fleeing," said Abhisit as quoted by Thai News Agency.

The case of taxi driver was the first proceeded to the court among other more than 30 cases of death arising from the riots during the crackdown on "red-shirt" protesters in 2010.

From March to May 2010, several thousands red-shirts, composed of supporters of former Thaksin Shinawatra and the anti- establishment, gathered in Bangkok. After the red-shirts had seized the heart of Bangkok's business zone more than a month, the military, under supervision of the CRES, cracked down on protesters, resulting in almost 100 people died and more than 2, 000 people injured.
