A strong quake jolted off the coast of Central Sulawesi in central Indonesia on Monday, with no alarm of tsunami issued and no damages or casualties reported, officials said.

The Indonesian Meteorology and Geophysics Agency measured the quake at 6.0 on the Richter scale at the depth of 10 km under seabed.

The quake occurred at 16:16 Jakarta time (10:16 GMT) with the epicenter at 114 km northeast of Bangkaikep in Central Sulawesi, an official of the agency told Xinhua by phone.

Spokesman of Indonesian Disaster Management and Mitigation Agency Sutopo Purwo Nugroho told Xinhua that there was no report of damages to property or casualties after the quake.

Indonesia sits on the so-called "Pacific Ring of Fire", a quake-prone zone with frequent seismic and volcanic activities.
