Mourners pay respect to Indian nurse
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-12-18 08:23

Hundreds of mourners Monday gathered at a church in the southern state of Karnataka to attend the funeral ceremony of an Indian nurse who apparently killed herself after being a victim of a royal hoax call at a London hospital where she was working.

The 46-year-old Jacintha Saldanha's coffin arrived in India from London Sunday, accompanied by her husband Benedict Barboza, 16-year-old son Junal and 14-year-old daughter Lisha.

After the funeral service at the church in Shirva, her hometown outside the city of Mangalore in the state, Jacintha would be buried at a nearby cemetery, her family sources told the media.

The nurse hanged herself from a wardrobe in the staff quarters at the King Edward VII Hospital in London on Dec. 7, after answering to a hoax call from two presenters at an Australian radio station pretending to be Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles and inquiring about Kate Middleton's health.

Prince William's wife was being treated at the hospital for acute morning sickness after she became pregnant.
