PM promises better welfare for teachers on Thai Teacher's Day

Thai Prime Minister promised better welfare and risk allowances for teachers nationwide to mark National Teachers' Day on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra made her remark as she presided over the Teachers' Day celebration at Education Ministry on Wednesday morning. Also on this occasion she paid respects to her own kindergarten, primary and secondary school teachers.

"Thank you to every teacher who has devoted their lives, particularly teachers in the restive deep South who died while performing their duty," said the prime minister," Thai News Agency reported Yingluck as saying.

Yingluck however urged teachers to improve their knowledge in order to prepare Thai students for the upcoming of the country's integration into the Association of South East Asean Nations Economic Community (AEC) in 2015.

Regarding the teachers in the restive southern border provinces, who were regularly attacked by the insurgents, the premier said that the government is working on providing a risk allowance for teachers.
