Thailand and France signed five bilateral agreements aiming at enhancing cooperation between the two countries, Thai News Agency reported on Wednesday.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and her French counterpart Jean-Marc Ayrault at Government House on Tuesday.

The agreements involved cooperation on national defence and education, joint production of vaccine to prevent diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis and hepatitis, cooperation on international research network, and educational course development between Rajamangala University of Technology and Institut Universitaire de Technologie.

The French premier emphasised his country's interest in expanding trade with the Southeast Asian region including Thailand, investment in Thailand's infrastructure and increased cooperation on education.

Yingluck hosted dinner for Ayrault, his wife and the French delegation which included several cabinet members, lawmakers and businessmen.

French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault made an official visit to Thailand on February 4 and 5 after the Thai premier sent an invitation to Ayrault after her visit to France in June 2012.

Ayrault was the first French prime minister to visit Thailand in seven years.
