The Sri Lankan government on Thursday reiterated its concerns over the nuclear tests conducted by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Tuesday, officials said.
The External Affairs Ministry said through this act, the DPRK had once again violated the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1874 (2009).
"Sri Lanka calls on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to refrain from any action which could compromise peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula and the progress of the six party talks," the ministry said in a statement.
The DPRK has drawn widespread international condemnation after conducting the nuclear test.
Several countries including China, the U.S., Russia and the UK have raised strong objections and have warned that the tests could worsen the situation in the Korean Peninsula.
