In yet another shocking incident of sexual assault on women in India, a 21-year-old female has been allegedly gangraped by four persons on a moving car in the northern city of Amritsar in Punjab state late Monday night, a top police official said.

According to city police chief Harjit Singh Brar, the victim in a complaint has alleged that she was going towards Amritsar bus stand around 7.30 p.m. Monday when a car approached close to her and a person forcibly pulled her inside the car.

"The girl has informed us that she was raped by four of them in the moving car and was later taken to the cantonment area. She has been admitted to a local hospital where her condition is said to be stable," he said, adding that a manhunt has been launched to track down the culprits.

The latest incident again puts a question mark on safety of women in India and gives a stark reminder of the brutal and fatal gangrape of a 23-year-old medical student by six men on a moving bus in the national capital in December last year.
