Myanmar President U Thein Sein left Nay Pyi Taw Wednesday noon to attend the 22nd summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), state radio reported.
U Thein Sein's attendance at the summit came two days after the European Union (EU) lifted all the sanctions imposed on Myanmar except arms embargo.
The summit, which will begin on Wednesday night, will address key economic and security issues in the Asia-Pacific region.
ASEAN leaders are expected to focus on pushing ahead with crucial trade deals and ASEAN integration.
The summit is also expected to review and discuss the current progress of ASEAN integration and community-building efforts, including the implementation of the Roadmap for an ASEAN Community (2009-2015) and the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity (MPAC).
ASEAN leaders will also endorse a decision by their economic ministers to expand trade ties with China's Hong Kong, according to the reports.
