Former Spanish Defense Minister Carme Chacon is expected to present her candidacy for the leadership of the Spanish Socialist (PSOE) Party this Saturday, local report said Wednesday.

Spanish radio station, Cadena Ser said that Chacon will announce her campaign to oppose Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba, who was the defeated candidate in last general election, in a small village of Olula del Rio in the province of Almeria where her father was born.

Chacon, now 40, was Spanish Minister of Defense between 2008 and 2011 in the former government of Jose Luis Zapatero.

She decided not to oppose Rubalcaba in the run of the general election, however, relations between the two have deteriorated since the defeat with Chacon signing the manifesto 'Mucho PSOE por Hacer' (a lot of PSOE still to be made) and criticizing her party for not taking a harder line against corruption during its time in office.

The new PSOE leader will be chosen at the 38th Federal Congress which will be held in early February.
