Sarkozy, Lagarde meet on eurozone crisis

French President Nicolas Sarkozy and International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde met here in Paris Wednesday in a fresh attempt to forge concrete alternatives to address eurozone debt crisis.

Sarkozy and Lagarde held talks on "the international economic situation" mainly on the tricky debt crisis in the eurozone region which still prompting high volatility in financial markets, according to the presidency office, the Elysee Palace.

No new conference was scheduled after a 45 -minute- meeting.

A day before, the IMF managing director flew to Berlin for informal exchange of views with German Chancellor Angela Merkel after fears reigned again markets across the bloc as investors sought safe havens for their money.

Sarkozy will meet Angela Merkel and Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti on Jan. 20 in Rome as part of high-level political moves to get to grips with the eurozone crisis.
