Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-02-28 17:21

The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry on Wednesday said it has sent an airplane with relief supplies to quake-hit southwestern Siberia.

According to the ministry's press service, an Il-76 airplane loaded with tents, heat guns and solar batteries landed early Wednesday in Kyzyl, capital of Tuva republic.

A day earlier, the ministry sent a Yak-42 airplane with a team of emergency workers to Kyzyl.

As of Wednesday, some 31 temporary accommodation stations have been opened in Kyzyl for quake-affected residents.

A 6.8-magnitude earthquake jolted Tuva republic on Sunday, without causing damage or casualties. The quake was also widely felt in Tuva's neighboring regions, including Khakassia, Krasnoyarsk, Omsk and Irkutsk.

According to local geophysical services, some 27 aftershocks have since been registered in Tuva.

The Sunday quake was the second powerful one that has hit Tuva in recent months. In December, a 6.7-magnitude quake rocked the Kaa-Khemsky district, some 100 km east of Kyzyl, causing no damage or casualties.
