Serbia and neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) on Friday in Belgrade signed an agreement to regulate international river navigation on the Sava and Drina Rivers.
Bosnian Minister of Communications and Transport, Damir Hadzic, and Serbian Minister for Infrastrucure and Energy, Milutin Mrkojnic, signed a technical agreement which provides for rehabilitation and modernization of navigation on international inland waters.
The River Sava flows from west to east, largely defining the border between Croatia and BiH, before reaching the Danube in Belgrade. The River Drina flows south to north along the border between Serbia and BiH.
The European Union has approved 5.5 million euros (7.2 milllion U.S. dollars) for demining and environmental studies for the stretch of the River Sava from Belgrade to Brcko, BiH. The repair and maintenance of navigation on the Sava River requires the cooperation of Croatia, Serbia and BiH. |
