About 20 Albanian gays and activists cycled through downtown Tirana on Monday in a rally to raise public awareness and seek recognition.
The activists cycled through the rain-soaked main boulevard under the protection of the police. However, they were hit by two smoke bombs, though no one was injured in the attack.
The members and activists from the group of LGBT (Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender) said they held the parade to defend and advance the rights of their community.
"You have to admit: some people are gay," they said in a slogan.
Albania, with more than 70 percent of its population claiming to be Muslims, passed an anti-discrimination law in 2009, but it does not allow same-sex marriage. |
