Five people were killed in Russia's Arkhangelsk Oblast region Wednesday when a car crashed into a parked timber truck, said the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The car with eight passengers ran into the truck at around 8 a.m. (0400 GMT) in Kotlas. Three boys and a girl died on the spot, and a woman died in hospital. Two other people were hospitalized, and the last one was in serious condition, said the ministry.

The driver, a 17-year-old boy, survived the ordeal while unconfirmed reports said he was drunk at the time and police has opened a criminal case into the accident.
